SH 130 Expansion
Texas Transportation Commission’s $36.7 million contract award is aimed at relieving congestion and enhancing safety.
PFLUGERVILLE, TX — City officials on Thursday were in celebration mode after the Texas Transportation Commission awarded a contract for expansion of SH 130.
On Thursday, April 26, the commission awarded the contract following a March 27 resolution urging the agency to act in reinstating the project while expressing support for regional transportation improvements aimed at enhancing safety and alleviate congestion.
Funding for the project to add a lane in each direction along SH 130 from SH 45 to US 290 (Manor Expressway) had previously been put on hold until Thursday’s Texas Transportation Commission’s reinstatement of the project, Pflugerville city officials noted in a press advisory. According to the Texas Transportation Commission agenda, the project contract was granted to OHL USA, Inc. for the $36.7 million project.
“I was glad to see TxDOT do the right thing and move forward with the expansion of SH 130,” Dist. 50 Rep. Celia Israel said in a prepared statement. “We never would have imagined SH 130 would become the parking lot that it can be today. This much needed expansion will not only help Pflugerville, but also other high-growth areas like Round Rock and Georgetown.”
Pflugerville Mayor Victor Gonzales echoed the sentiment: “The Pflugerville City Council is excited to hear of the continued progression on the SH 130 widening project which will help with traffic mitigation and assist with traffic flows in Pflugerville,” Gonzales said. “The city has been actively involved in ensuring that transportation corridors and connectivity routes are maximized. We are thankful to the entire Texas Transportation Commission, for the support of Representative Celia Israel, and regional partners who worked together for these future toll lane expansions on SH 130 which will help our entire region.”
The Pflugerville City Council has added a Resolution expressing appreciation to the Texas Transportation Commission, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), and regional partners to the May 8 city council meeting in recognition of the Texas Transportation Commission’s action, officials said.
